Green Light for new Health and Wellbeing Centre

Parr Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre, a new healthcare development situated within a £10m development scheme, has been given the green light, with construction of the new building set to start in early 2022.

Parr Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre will house the relocated Boothstown Medical Centre and also provide additional community services.

This new building is a collaboration between NHS Wigan Borough CCG, Flexdane Ltd, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Boothstown Medical Centre and will be situated on the new and exciting Parr Bridge Retail Park, Mosley Common Road, Tyldesley, in the heart of the local community surrounded by new retail / leisure facilities with new residential schemes adjoining the development.

As well as providing a comprehensive range of healthcare services, including a modern GP surgery, with adjacent pharmacy provision, the Parr Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre has been designed to be environmentally friendly and sustainable to ensure inclusivity and accessibility for all patients. This design was achieved by working closely with Boothstown Medical Centre, Community Services and local stakeholders to create a building that is future-proofed and user-friendly to all.

The development, which is set for completion in early 2023, will be built at the same time as the adjacent retail / leisure complex and will compliment the recently completed Lidl food store, Starbucks and Nursery, providing a wonderful mixed use community provision in the local area.

Dr Richard Anderson, GP Partner at Boothstown Medical Centre, said: “The GPs and staff at Boothstown Medical centre are all delighted planning permission has been granted and that we can finally start to build our new Health and Wellbeing Centre, which has long been needed.

“The new building will allow us to provide even more services to the local population in a brand new healthcare environment. Boothstown Medical Centre and Partners would like to reassure patients that all our services will continue throughout the duration of the build period in 2022”

Tom Clay, Managing Director of development company Flexdane Ltd said: “I’m delighted that we’re moving on to the next stage of this project, in partnership with NHS Wigan Borough CCG, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Boothstown Medical Centre. Our family business has operated on the site for over 25 years and it is now great to see the reuse of our land into a mixed use community scheme for the local population, at the heart of which will be the new Health & Wellbeing centre”

“It’s been exciting to hear from people in Tyldesley about how important the new health and wellbeing centre is to the community. We’re grateful for their support and looking forward to building the remaining phases of this wider development”

Dr Tim Dalton, GP and Chair of NHS Wigan Borough Clinical Commissioning Group said:

“We are delighted to have reached this important milestone with planning permission being granted for the new health and wellbeing centre at Parr Bridge Retail Park.  The new centre will house a number of services, including the GP practice and community services. I’d like to reassure patients and residents that we have plans in place to ensure there is as little disruption as possible once building works start. The GP practice will remain open in it’s current location whilst building works are complete.  It is great to be working so closely in partnership with Boothstown Medical centre, Flexdane Ltd and Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust on the development of this new modern facility for the local community”

Silas Nicholls, Chief Executive of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “This is an important milestone in a very exciting project and as a partnership with Boothstown Medical Centre, Wigan Borough CCG, Wigan Council and Flexdane Ltd, we all look forward to seeing the plans become a reality over the coming months”

“Parr Bridge Health and Wellbeing Centre is going to provide people in the local area with access to the healthcare they need in a modern, welcoming and joined-up setting – a facility to be truly proud of.”

Peter Wilkinson, Director of PWA Ltd, Project Manager for Flexdane Ltd, said: “It has been a great pleasure to work alongside an integrated and collaborative team, all of whom have been determined to move forward with this project, putting the patient and the local community first”
